CHD Lobby Day 2010
National Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Lobby Day 2009 proved successful in securing bi-partisan co-sponsorship in the House and Senate for the Congenital Heart Futures Act, which seeks increased research, surveillance and education regarding congenital heart defects. The bill was introduced by Senators Richard Durbin and Thad Cochran in the Senate and by Representatives Zachary Space and Gus Bilirakis in the House of Representatives in March of 2009. On March 23, 2010 this act was signed into law by President Obama as part of the Health Care Reform Bill.
On April 22, 2010, Children’s Heart Foundation, Mended Little Hearts, and Adult Congenital Heart Association are partnering again to take congenital heart defects to Capitol Hill for CHD Lobby Day. Hundreds of organizations and individuals will be reaching out to their legislators on behalf of the Congenital Heart Defect community asking them to support funding for the Congenital Heart Futures Act. A sub-group of organizations will also be reaching out to Secretary Sebelius and her Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (ACHDNC) to support the recommendation of screening for Critical Congenital Heart Disease using pulse oximetry being added to the National Newborn Screening Panel.
Big Love Little Hearts and One In One Hundred are among the many organizations participating in CHD Lobby Day 2010. If you’d like to be there too visit:
